Apple's new iPad mini adds an OLED screen and faster chip

Apple's new iPad mini brings major upgrades to its compact tablet, which the company does not update every year.

The screen is now an 8.5-inch OLED display, brighter than the previous model and set in a thinner, lighter body.

Its new A20 Pro chip is designed for faster performance, with Apple claiming up to 2.7 times faster graphics and 4.5 times faster AI workloads than the predecessor's A17 Pro.

The starting price rises by $200 to $699 for the 128GB model.

The tablet is also Apple's first iPad with IP67 water resistance, and it uses a new speaker system built into the display.

However, it still has a 60Hz screen rather than ProMotion, and its available colors are now limited to Midnight and Starlight.
