Pigeon carrying coded ring, Urdu note and Pakistani currency found in Jammu

Locals caught a pigeon carrying suspicious items near the border in Jammu’s Samba district on Saturday morning.

The bird had a coded ring on its leg, an Urdu note and Pakistani currency.

Police seized the pigeon and its belongings and took the bird for examination.

Security agencies are checking what the note says and where the pigeon came from.

Pigeons have previously been used to send messages or smuggle items across borders in Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab, officials said.

Balloons marked with Pakistan International Airlines were also found in Jammu on Friday and October 17.

The contents and origin are still being verified, and officials have not said what the examination has found.
