Spain targets 2027 minimum wage rise before November election
Spain’s labour ministry wants to set the 2027 minimum wage before the 29 November general election so the decision is not left to a caretaker or incoming government.
The minimum wage is currently €1,221 gross a month, paid 14 times a year.
An expert group has recommended a 4.9% rise to €1,281, while the ministry is expected to propose an increase of about 5%.
The main unions, UGT and CC OO, want a 7% increase and say they will not lower that demand.
Employers have not proposed a figure and argue the issue should wait until after the election, making an agreement unlikely.
The ministry plans to put its proposal out for public comment soon and aims to secure approval by the Council of Ministers before the election.
