Eight killed by gunman in Erie, Pennsylvania; shooter dies by suicide
A 45-year-old man killed eight people at a home in Erie, Pennsylvania, on Friday, then took his own life.
The victims included a pregnant woman, a one-year-old girl and a five-year-old boy.
Police say the gunman was related to seven of the victims, while the eighth was a friend of the pregnant woman.
The victims’ identities have not been made public.
The father of the one-year-old girl said the gunman had seemed cheerful and showed no obvious signs of distress.
Police have not stated a motive and say they are continuing to investigate, including by speaking with relatives and examining phones belonging to the two women killed outside the home.
Officials have urged the public not to spread unverified claims as the families and community grieve.
