Weather cancels final MotoGP races at Phillip Island; Sunday fans offered refunds

Organisers cancelled all Sunday MotoGP races at Phillip Island in Australia after rain and poor visibility made racing unsafe.

The medical helicopter could not operate safely, and organisers said racing could not go ahead without it.

Sunday ticket holders are due full refunds, while multi-day ticket holders will receive partial refunds.

The cancellation also ended the circuit’s run on the MotoGP calendar, which began in 1997.

From 2027, the Australian Grand Prix will move to a city-centre circuit in Adelaide under a six-year arrangement.

Marc Márquez therefore keeps a 10-point championship lead over injured Jorge Martin, who was unable to race.

The next round is in Malaysia next week, but it is not yet clear whether Martin will be fit to ride.
