Indonesia’s Parliament Open to Revising Corruption Law
Indonesia’s House Commission III is open to revising the corruption law as lawmakers discuss a separate asset seizure bill.
Committee deputy chair Ahmad Sahroni said it would consult experts and other groups before considering changes.
The existing law was last revised in 2001, according to Justice Minister Yusril Ihza Mahendra.
The debate follows a study by the National Economic Council that proposed removing state financial losses from the definition of corruption.
Sahroni has also backed including under-invoicing in the definition of corruption, referring to trade documents that report lower prices, quantities or volumes than the real figures.
Yusril has called for the law to be aligned with Indonesia’s new criminal and procedural codes and the UN anti-corruption convention.
The committee will assess whether the proposed changes can move forward as consultations and discussions on the asset seizure bill continue.

What people are saying
I support the proposal to include under-invoicing in the Corruption Law. This needs serious consideration.
And the draft Law on Asset Seizure is also being discussed now. So there must be synchronization with the current Corruption Law.
