Liverpool beat Chelsea on penalties at Anfield to reach the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.

The fourth-round match finished level after Morgan Rogers scored for Chelsea and Cody Gakpo equalised from the penalty spot for Liverpool.

Giorgi Mamardashvili saved Emmanuel Emegha’s penalty, and Joe Gomez scored before Wesley Fofana sent his kick over the bar.

It was Liverpool’s fifth straight shootout win over Chelsea, adding to a run of penalty defeats in several earlier cup and European matches.

The win sends Liverpool into the quarter-finals, keeping their bid for the cup alive.

They will face Bournemouth, the former club of Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola.
