LG Display plans production upgrades for OLED TVs up to 111 inches

LG Display and its partner plan to invest another 1 billion yuan to upgrade facilities for large OLED panels.

The work is aimed at panels measuring 77, 83, 97 and potentially 111 inches, according to market analysis cited in the reports.

OLED TVs currently top out at 97 inches, and LG lists its 97-inch model for $19,999 in the US.

That 97-inch panel uses older technology than smaller LG models, with lower brightness and less color accuracy.

Large OLEDs also face competition from mini-LED TVs, including a 98-inch Hisense model priced at $3,999.

The upgrades could make large OLED production more affordable, including for 77- and 83-inch TVs, but the technology and prices of future models are not confirmed.

No launch date is given for a 111-inch panel.
