Silvia Salis presents book and urges Italy’s centre-left to look to the centre

Genoa Mayor Silvia Salis presented her book, “È già domani,” in Genoa.

At the event, she said she is a progressive, not a moderate, and argued that the centre-left needs to keep its centrist roots to win elections.

She said she currently has no role beyond being mayor, though she acknowledged having ambitions for the future.

Salis did not say whether she would seek a national leadership role, and said it was unclear whether centrist political groups wanted to join together.

She criticised the government’s migration policy and called for more investment in integration, including a billion euros for the Mattei Plan.

She also spoke about rising poverty and Gaza, saying people should not remain indifferent to the suffering of children there.

Her comments placed her in opposition to Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, while leaving her own political plans open.
