Kimberly Williams-Paisley played a Sherlock-inspired character on The Flash

Kimberly Williams-Paisley played Renee Adler on The Flash in its fifth season.

Renee is a metahuman with magnetic powers, and the villain Cicada II targets her because of those abilities.

Her name refers to Irene Adler, a character from Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes story “A Scandal in Bohemia.”

Renee also has a romantic relationship with Harrison Sherloque Wells, a detective on Team Flash from another Earth.

Their pairing echoes Sherlock Holmes and Irene Adler, who are intellectual rivals in the original stories, though some adaptations make them romantic.

Williams-Paisley also played four of Sherloque Wells's former wives, all doppelgangers of Renee.

She had already worked with Tom Cavanagh on the Hallmark film series Darrow & Darrow before appearing on The Flash in 2019; their final movie together, Witness to Murder: A Darrow Mystery, came out later that year.
