Saudi stocks pare losses as 101 shares hit yearly lows

Saudi Arabia’s TASI index fell 0.3% on Wednesday, its third straight day of losses, but the decline slowed from the previous session.

The index fell as low as 9,855 points, its lowest level since 2021, before recovering to close at 9,927.

The recovery did not reach most shares: 190 companies fell, while 58 rose, and 101 shares touched their lowest prices of the year.

That was more than the 82 shares that hit yearly lows the day before, and about 90% of shares remained below their average price over the past 200 days.

Banks accounted for much of the extra trading, with their share of total market activity rising to 37% from 22%.

Bank shares had mixed results: Alinma fell 5% after results below expectations, while Riyad Bank gained 2.6% after better-than-expected results.

Lower borrowing and bond yields may support share values, but the improvement is not automatic and depends partly on companies’ profit outlooks.
