Airlines seek Mumbai airport safety reports before flight-cut talks

Airlines have asked Mumbai airport to share independent reports about the structural safety of Terminal 1.

They also want details of the redevelopment plan, including its stages, schedule and the capacity of Terminals 1 and 2.

Mumbai International Airport Ltd has proposed cutting 265 international flights from October 26 because of planned work at Terminal 1.

The airlines say the proposed reduction, described as a 33 per cent cut, was not discussed or agreed with their committee.

The Civil Aviation Ministry has put the cuts on hold, and a meeting is scheduled for October 13 to discuss them.

The airport plans to begin redeveloping part of Terminal 1B in January 2027, saying the 60-year-old terminal needs repairs.

It says Navi Mumbai International Airport can offer an alternative for airlines while work proceeds.
