German Chamber calls for wider dual vocational training in Spain
The German Chamber of Commerce for Spain brought businesses, educators and officials together in Madrid to discuss dual vocational training.
The event focused on skills shortages and how to expand the model in Spain.
Dual training combines education with practical learning at a company, and Spain has adapted elements of the German system to its own education system.
A survey of Chamber members found more than half of companies using AHK-certified dual training said it helps them find professionals they cannot recruit elsewhere.
Officials and business representatives said companies, schools and institutions need to work more closely, while small businesses need help overcoming organisational and bureaucratic barriers.
They also stressed that practical training must be well planned and supervised, and said companies should help develop talent, not only search for workers who are already trained.
