Indonesia Wildfire Haze Disrupts 3,030 Flights, 1,700 Cancelled
Wildfire smoke disrupted 3,030 flights in Indonesia between 14 August and 25 October 2026.
About 1,700 flights were cancelled, affecting 154 routes and 78 airports.
Routes serving Pontianak, Singkawang, Palangkaraya and Pangkalan Bun in Kalimantan were among the most affected.
Some smaller regional flights were also disrupted, including 617 pioneering flights, mainly in Papua, Kalimantan and Maluku.
Smoke can reduce visibility and make take-offs and landings harder, especially at airports with limited landing guidance equipment.
The Transport Ministry has asked AirNav to upgrade landing systems at affected airports to help planes land in lower visibility.
The ministry is still calculating the cost and infrastructure needed, while international flights have not been significantly affected so far.
