Memorial to Israeli police commander killed on Oct. 7 vandalized in Beersheba

A memorial to police commander Jayar Davidov was vandalized at Beersheba Creek Park in southern Israel.

The plaque commemorates Davidov, who led the Rahat police station and lived in Beersheba.

He was killed fighting Hamas attackers on October 7, 2023, after leaving home to help officers battling the attackers near Re’im.

Davidov and his team were the first to reach the site of the assault, before Israeli soldiers arrived.

Photos showed someone had tried to scratch out his face on the memorial.

His widow said the vandalism hurt the wider community, describing it as an attack on the memory of those who died so others could live in peace.

The sources do not say who defaced the memorial or what will happen next.
