Radhika Apte recalls difficult role in a Telugu film
While promoting the series Akka, Radhika Apte recalled a difficult Telugu film role in an interview.
Her character had to marry her maternal uncle, played by a much older actor.
Apte said she hated the experience because of the age gap and the patriarchal setting.
She also recalled that her character dies partway through the film.
Keerthy Suresh said marrying an uncle is a custom in some Tamil and Telugu contexts.
The film was not named, though online discussion linked it to Legend, one of Apte’s films with Nandamuri Balakrishna.
Apte has also criticised colourism in South Indian film casting, saying fair skin influenced the choice of North Indian actresses.
