Takashi Yamazaki brings King Ghidorah to his hometown in Godzilla Minus Zero
Director Takashi Yamazaki brings King Ghidorah to Matsumoto in Godzilla Minus Zero, the new Japanese Godzilla film.
Yamazaki grew up in the city and, as a child, wanted to see Ghidorah destroy it in a Godzilla movie.
In the 1964 film Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster, Matsumoto appeared only briefly after the creature emerged.
The new film gives Ghidorah a major scene of destruction in Matsumoto, fulfilling Yamazaki’s long-held wish.
The story takes place two years after Godzilla Minus One, as Japan is still recovering from Godzilla’s attacks and faces another monster.
Godzilla and Ghidorah fight in a bloody battle, which Yamazaki says was shaped partly by watching his two cats play and sometimes fight.
The film is rated R, and it is now in theaters.

What people are saying
55 years later, I had King Ghidorah appear in my own film. I had the chance to make the movie I wanted to watch back then, and I created the footage that I wanted to show my younger self, as if to say, 'This is what you wanted to see, isn't it?'
So, my dream has finally come true after 55 years, and I am truly happy
So, I have two cats. And for the most part, they're very nice and playful with each other, but on a rare occasion I think there's like — I don't know if they're crossing the line between play and actual fighting. I see two creatures fighting each other and I tend to think about my cats when that happens.
