Hyundai and Kia open vehicle-app contest to outside developers
Hyundai and Kia have opened a vehicle-app contest to university students, developers and startups.
It follows an internal company hackathon in August and expands participation to developers outside the companies.
Entrants can use the companies’ PLEOS Playground platform and its software tools to build apps that could work in real vehicles.
The contest covers entertainment, mobility care, safer driving and family services based on vehicle data.
Individuals or teams of up to five can apply by November 15, with applications screened in November and app demonstrations assessed in December.
Ten winning teams will share 51 million won in prizes, and the companies say they want to support more in-car services and grow the app ecosystem with developers.
