Northampton beat Leicester 39-19 to keep semi-final hopes alive

Northampton beat Leicester 39-19 in an East Midlands derby at Franklin’s Gardens.

The win keeps the Saints’ hopes of reaching the Prem Rugby Cup semi-finals alive.

Northampton scored seven tries, with wings Tom Rowe and Amena Caqusau and full-back James Martin each scoring twice.

Leicester, last season’s cup winners, have lost three straight matches and are bottom of Pool B.

Northampton’s victory also extended their run to 16 consecutive home wins in all competitions.

Young scrum-half Sonny Goode impressed off the bench after captain Jonny Weimann left injured, adding to Northampton’s injury problems in that position.

The result provides some revenge for Northampton after Leicester beat them in a league match two weeks earlier.
