Singer Rochelle Fleming died at 72 in Philadelphia on November 5, according to a statement shared by her manager on behalf of her family.

Fleming was the founder and lead vocalist of First Choice, a group known for its R&B, Philadelphia soul and disco music.

She began singing with friends at Overbrook High School, where they formed a group called The Debonettes.

After a local radio DJ introduced them to producer Norman Harris, the group became First Choice and gained attention for songs including “Armed and Extremely Dangerous” and “Doctor Love.”

Her work helped shape R&B and disco, and First Choice also appeared on national television shows such as “Soul Train” and “American Bandstand.”
