Partners Group faces investor exits and weak returns in private-market funds
Partners Group, an investment firm based in Baar, Switzerland, is facing pressure as investors seek to withdraw money from some of its private-market funds.
These funds invest in assets such as companies that are not traded on public stock markets, which can be difficult to sell quickly.
Returns have weakened after a boom in private-market investing, when firms competed for deals and sometimes paid high prices.
Partners Group’s Global Value fund returned minus 4.1 percent in the first half of the year, and its average annual return since 2021 has been below 4 percent.
By the end of June, requests to withdraw from the fund were twice its limit of 5 percent of assets per quarter.
That limit helps the fund manage investments that cannot be sold quickly, but it also means investors may not be able to take out all the money they request.
Partners Group plans to split the fund, placing older assets expected to deliver low returns in one part.
Partners Group shares have fallen intermittently for five years and reached their lowest level in ten years on a Thursday in October 2026.
The company’s three founders, Alfred Gantner, Marcel Erni and Urs Wietlisbach, lost about 1.6 billion Swiss francs in combined wealth over nine months.
Partners Group’s evergreen funds have attracted less new investment as returns and investor satisfaction have weakened.
The Global Value SICAV fund, launched in 2007 and valued at 6.6 billion euros, returned minus 4.1 percent in the first half of 2026.
By the end of June, requests to withdraw money from that fund were twice the permitted quarterly limit of 5 percent of its assets.
Partners Group plans to split the fund into two parts, separating older assets with weaker return prospects from newer investments.
