Slovan Bratislava sets Champions League record with 14th straight defeat

Slovan Bratislava lost 4-0 away to Austria’s LASK in the Champions League on Tuesday.

The defeat was the Slovak club’s 14th in a row in the competition, taking it past Marseille’s previous run of 13.

Slovan has now lost all four of its matches this season, conceding at least three goals in each and scoring once.

It is the first club to start a season with four defeats by three or more goals in the competition.

Coach Yaya Touré, who won the Champions League as a Barcelona player in 2009, said the team was struggling and had not fought hard enough.

Slovan has four league-phase matches left, giving it a chance to end the run or extend its record.

The club is also second in Slovakia’s league, eight points behind the leader after 13 rounds.
