Türkiye sends Osman Gazi platform to Black Sea gas field
Türkiye has sent the Osman Gazi platform from Filyos in Zonguldak province toward the Black Sea.
The floating facility is designed to process natural gas from the Sakarya Gas Field and send it to shore through underwater pipelines.
Türkiye currently produces 9.5 million cubic meters of gas a day from the field, according to one account.
The government aims to raise output to 20 million cubic meters daily, doubling Black Sea production.
It expects the extra gas to help supply one in three households with domestic gas from early 2027.
The platform is due to begin production in early 2027, after preparation work is completed.
Türkiye sent the Osman Gazi floating production platform from Filyos Port to the Sakarya Gas Field in the Black Sea on Oct. 17.
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said the platform is expected to double Black Sea gas production to 20 million cubic meters per day.
The platform will process gas from Sakarya field wells and send it to shore through subsea pipelines.
The Energy Ministry expects production to begin in early 2027, while Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar said first gas could be burned at the platform’s flare stack before the end of 2026.
Erdoğan said that from early 2027, one in every three households in Türkiye would use domestically produced natural gas.
