GS Retail media bus has reached 23,000 people in 10 years
GS Retail and the Viewers Media Foundation have run a mobile media education program for 10 years in South Korea.
A truck fitted with broadcasting equipment visits schools, welfare facilities and other locations to offer media lessons and hands-on activities.
The project began trial operations in 2017 and expanded to full programs in 2018, after GS Retail helped fund the vehicle in 2016.
More than 23,000 people have taken part, and the bus is expected to have made 660 visits by the end of this year.
Early visits focused on schools in remote areas, while the program later expanded to schools, libraries and welfare facilities in the Seoul metropolitan area.
Activities that once centered on making TV news, radio programs and animation voiceovers now also include artificial intelligence and virtual reality.
The program gives people wider access to media education, and a survey of about 2,400 participants last year recorded an average satisfaction score of 92.2 out of 100.
GS Retail’s Media Sharing Bus has provided media education and hands-on experiences to about 23,000 people over 10 years.
The program is run with the Korea Communications Commission’s Media Foundation and takes a vehicle equipped for broadcast production to schools and welfare facilities.
GS Retail funded the conversion of a five-ton truck in 2016 with a contribution of 400 million won.
The bus began trial operations in November 2017 and full-scale education in 2018.
By the end of 2026, the program is expected to have operated 660 times, with activities expanded to include AI and virtual reality experiences.
