Boeing wins $119.7 million contract to upgrade US and Australian P-8A aircraft

The US Navy awarded Boeing a $119.7 million contract modification to upgrade P-8A Poseidon patrol aircraft.

The aircraft are operated by the US Navy and the Royal Australian Air Force.

The contract covers nine upgrade kits: seven for US aircraft and two for Australian aircraft.

It also provides for installing four kits on US Navy aircraft.

The P-8A is based on a Boeing 737 design but has been adapted for military maritime missions.

Its sensors and systems help crews find and track submarines and surface ships.

The upgrades are part of modernizing the aircraft for surveillance and warfare missions.
