Gmarket reports third straight quarter of transaction growth
South Korean online marketplace Gmarket reported growth for a third straight quarter in transaction volume, a measure of the value of goods sold.
Its total transaction volume from January to September was up by double digits from the same period a year earlier.
Gmarket said it has invested in seller support, marketing and platform upgrades since becoming part of a joint venture owned equally by Shinsegae Group and Alibaba International.
From the first half of next year, Gmarket plans to connect to Alibaba's global platforms and offer sellers access to about 120 countries; it currently reaches five Southeast Asian countries through Lazada.
A new delivery service aims to reduce sellers' logistics work by handling collection and delivery without requiring sellers to move goods to a separate warehouse.
The service is due to start in the Seoul metropolitan area at the end of October and expand nationwide during 2027, while a creator-sales partnership service is planned for November and an AI chatbot for early 2027.
Gmarket said its transaction value grew for a third consecutive quarter in the third quarter of this year.
Transaction value for January through September rose by a double-digit percentage from the same period last year.
The company said investment in seller support, marketing and platform upgrades contributed to the growth.
Gmarket plans to expand its export channels, introduce a new delivery service and launch creator-seller affiliate marketing.
