Police Use Commuter Train in North Jakarta Drug Raid

Police and Indonesia’s National Narcotics Agency raided Kampung Bahari in North Jakarta on Sunday, targeting suspected drug activity.

Officers used a special commuter train from Jakarta Kota toward Tanjung Priok to reach the area by the railway, and the operation was coordinated with railway operator KAI Commuter.

Police said teams moved in from several directions, and drug transactions were still taking place at a stall beside the tracks during the raid.

Reports gave different arrest totals: 26 and 27 people were detained, with those arrested due to be examined further.

Authorities said they seized methamphetamine, cannabis and ecstasy, as well as other items including cash and weapons.

Three commuter train trips were delayed by 4 to 19 minutes after a crowd gathered on the tracks, though the special train did not affect regular service.

Police said they would continue operations and pursue suspected drug bosses, and stalls by the tracks were due to be dismantled to prevent further misuse.
