Spain and Barcelona dominate the 2026 Ballon d’Or awards

At the 2026 Ballon d’Or gala, Spain and Barcelona collected most of the awards.

Barcelona won six prizes, including the women’s club award for the third time.

Alexia Putellas won her third women’s Ballon d’Or, four years after her previous win.

Lamine Yamal finished third in the men’s Ballon d’Or vote but won the men’s Kopa Trophy for the best young player.

Spain’s Unai Simón became the first Spanish goalkeeper to win the Yashin Trophy, while national team coach Luis de la Fuente won the men’s coaching award.

Spain also had six nominees in each Ballon d’Or category, more than any other country.

The results underline Spain’s strength in top-level football, especially the women’s game, but no further next steps are given.
