Man stabbed at home in Las Palmas; police rule out link to jewelry robbery

A man was stabbed at his home in La Paterna, a neighborhood in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, in Spain's Canary Islands.

He opened the door after hearing someone pounding on it and was attacked with a knife.

Reports differ on whether one or two attackers were involved, and give the time as about 12:30 or 12:40 a.m.

The man suffered cuts to his arms and hand and was taken to hospital in serious condition, though one account said his life was not in danger.

Police say the stabbing is not linked to a jewelry store robbery at the nearby Las Arenas shopping center, despite initially considering a possible connection.

The robbery getaway car was later set on fire, and the flames spread to about 10 other vehicles.

Police are investigating the incidents separately and are looking for the two people suspected of the stabbing and those who set the car alight.
