Prabowo appoints Tandyo army chief and Maruli deputy TNI commander

President Prabowo Subianto appointed two Indonesian generals at a ceremony in Jakarta on October 15.

Tandyo Budi Revita is now chief of the Indonesian Army, replacing Maruli Simanjuntak, who became deputy commander of the TNI, Indonesia’s military.

Maruli also took charge of a national border and remote-area agency, which previously focused on border management and was temporarily led by the home affairs minister.

The agency’s expanded role is intended to improve livelihoods in border and remote communities by coordinating with relevant ministries and government bodies.

Maruli said military personnel in those areas could help with coordination, but the agency is not a military body.

Tandyo was tasked with speeding up government programs, including village cooperatives, public schools and food security efforts.

He also said the army would help fight land and forest fires, including fires on peatlands.
