Hackers target Italian parliament email accounts, including Meloni’s

Hackers targeted email accounts at Italy’s Chamber of Deputies, the lower house of parliament.

The accounts included one assigned to Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in her role as a member of parliament.

The accounts affected are not fully clear: one account says three addresses were breached overnight, while another describes a wider attack involving many lawmakers’ mailboxes.

Meloni does not use her parliamentary account for government business; her prime ministerial email is protected separately by the government office.

The Chamber says its systems held up and that it has put protective measures in place with Italy’s National Cybersecurity Agency.

Those measures can include temporarily disabling some system functions.

Investigators are checking what happened, amid reports of similar attacks and pressure on other national, European and international institutions.
