Paramount+ orders six-part series on Australia’s mushroom murders

Paramount+ has ordered a six-episode drama called Mushroom Murders about a notorious Australian homicide case.

Melanie Lynskey will play Erin Patterson and executive produce the series.

In 2023, Patterson served beef wellingtons at her home in Victoria to her estranged in-laws and their relatives; three guests died after eating food allegedly prepared with poisonous death cap mushrooms.

The series will cover the 97 days from the lunch to Patterson’s arrest, rather than the full case.

Patterson was convicted and sentenced to at least 33 years in prison, and she is appealing her sentence.

The case drew nationwide attention in Australia, and the series brings it to an international streaming audience.

Daina Reid will direct all six episodes, and no release date has been announced.
