First-time mother Ndala gives birth to a baby mountain gorilla
Twelve-year-old Ndala has given birth to her first baby, a son, at Virunga National Park in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.
She was seen with the newborn on October 6.
The birth is the second recorded in the Humba gorilla family this year, which now has 19 members.
It is also the 16th birth among gorillas monitored in the park's Mikeno sector since January.
Mountain gorillas are endangered, with about 1,075 remaining in the wild, making births important for the population.
