Japan to spend ¥10 billion on urgent cybersecurity measures

Japan’s government has approved ¥10 billion in emergency cybersecurity funding from its fiscal 2026 reserve.

The plan is to use AI to check nearly all key government systems for vulnerabilities during the fiscal year.

The funding will also pay for equipment for the National Police Agency to gather and analyse cyberattack information and support investigations.

The Digital Agency will upgrade shared government computers and communications networks.

The government says cyberattacks are becoming more sophisticated and causing more damage.

The checks and upgrades are intended to strengthen government defences against those risks.

The work is planned for fiscal 2026, though no more detailed schedule is given.
