Argent expands gold drilling at Trunkey Creek in NSW
Argent Minerals has expanded its gold drilling program at Trunkey Creek in New South Wales.
The company has approval for 8,687 metres of drilling, more than eight times the original program.
The work includes additional diamond holes and 28 reverse-circulation holes in the southern part of the goldfield.
Drilling will test the full known 500-metre length of Wilson’s Reef, which lies at the northern end of a 4.7-kilometre mineralised corridor.
A hole in the early program found visible gold and returned a sample grading up to 15.84 grams per tonne over 0.4 metres.
Argent is also testing below old mine workings, where mining stopped after groundwater became difficult to manage; historical records do not say the reefs were exhausted.
The approvals could keep drilling going until at least February 2027 at current rates, with the next phase dependent on results and drill-pad availability.
Argent Minerals has secured approval for 8,687 metres of expanded gold drilling at Trunkey Creek in New South Wales.
The approved program includes 10 additional diamond holes and 28 reverse-circulation holes.
Drilling will test the full known 500-metre strike of Wilson’s Reef and extend beneath historical mine workings.
The company said the program could continue until at least February 2027 at current drilling rates.
The expansion follows an early result from the second hole, which returned up to 0.4 metres at 15.84 grams of gold per tonne.
- Who
- Argent Minerals, an Australian gold exploration company.
- What
- It secured approval for an expanded 8,687-metre drilling program at Trunkey Creek, including 38 additional holes.
- When
- The approval was reported on 2 November 2026. Drilling could continue until at least February 2027 at current rates.
- Where
- Trunkey Creek in New South Wales, including Wilson’s Reef.
- Why
- To test the known strike of Wilson’s Reef and search for gold beneath the interpreted limit of historical mining.
This story does not have two clearly opposing sides.
Historical mining took place along the broader mineralised corridor that includes Wilson’s Reef.
Argent completed four diamond holes for 886.8 metres, and the second hole intersected visible gold.
Stockhead reported Argent’s approval for 8,687 metres of expanded drilling at Trunkey Creek.
Argent said the approved program could continue until at least this time at current drilling rates.

- Approved RC holes
- 28 for Phase 2 in the southern section of the goldfield
- Wilson’s Reef known strike
- 500 metres
- Second hole result

What people are saying
Securing approvals for further 38 holes is a significant step for Trunkey
It allows us to keep drilling continuously into 2027 and to systematically test Wilson’s Reef along its full known strike.
Our drilling is focused on testing for mineralisation below approximately 180m from surface, the interpreted limit of historic mining
That depth matters because the historic records indicate mining at Trunkey ceased due to the difficulty of managing groundwater, not because the reefs were documented to have been exhausted.
