Spotify Removes 50 Million AI Tracks From Recommendations

Spotify removed more than 50 million AI-generated tracks from recommendations after identifying them as slop or spam.

The tracks are still on Spotify, but listeners have to seek them out rather than find them through recommendations.

Spotify says it changed its system over the past six months to surface more music made by human artists.

It uses listener feedback, upload patterns, track details and outside detection tools to identify likely slop or spam.

Spotify also labels some AI identities as AI Personas and excludes them from recommendations, unless a listener follows their profile.

The changes come as other music services add AI labels, offer filters or restrict AI music.

Spotify says its work to curb AI slop is not finished as the technology and the people misusing it continue to change.
