Ransomware attack disrupts Queens Public Library digital services

The Queens Public Library confirmed a ransomware attack on its systems in New York City.

It disrupted the website, public Wi-Fi, on-site computers, checkout and return machines, the mobile app and digital media services.

All branches remain open, but some virtual and in-person programs may be affected.

The library serves Queens, a borough of 2.3 million people, through 66 branches.

Ransomware attacks can block an organization from using its systems, and libraries depend on digital services for borrowing and other public resources.

No criminal group has claimed responsibility for this attack.

The library is working with law enforcement and cybersecurity experts, and says restoring its network and systems will take time.
