PAN asks Mexico’s federal prosecutor to investigate alleged INE conflicts of interest
Mexico’s PAN party filed a complaint with the federal prosecutor’s office seeking an investigation into alleged conflicts of interest at the National Electoral Institute, known as the INE.
The allegations concern former INE president Guadalupe Taddei and José Alfredo Hernández Casillas, a representative of supplier Cajas Graf who was also listed as the president’s office driver.
PAN says investigators should examine contracts and public spending, and bring together records held by other agencies.
The allegations have not been established as fact, and the complaint asks authorities to investigate who may be responsible.
PAN leader Jorge Romero said doubts about the INE’s legitimacy could undermine confidence ahead of the next elections.
