Dutch plan covers less than a fifth of lost box 3 tax revenue
The Dutch government plans to stop taxing paper gains under box 3 from 2028.
Box 3 is the tax category named in the government’s plan.
The change is expected to reduce state revenue by €21.8 billion through 2040.
The government has proposed measures to make up for some of that lost income.
Those measures would cover about €4.2 billion, less than a fifth of the total.
The figures were released by the Finance Ministry after members of the House of Representatives pressed for them.
The figures show that most of the projected revenue loss remains uncovered.
