US Olympic body weighs selling stake in new commercial venture

The US Olympic and Paralympic Committee is developing a new commercial venture that could sell investors a stake in Team USA’s commercial rights.

The USOPC is a nonprofit that relies heavily on sponsorships, licensing and other commercial income rather than government funding.

The proposed venture, called United States Olympic and Paralympic Ventures, is still being planned, and its commercial model has not been settled.

The change comes as the US prepares to host the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, after which the USOPC’s current commercial partnership with LA28 will end.

The committee says it is considering options to bring in more resources for athletes and national governing bodies while preserving its mission and governance.

It has consulted athlete and federation representatives, and says it is planning for future host cities, including Salt Lake City’s 2034 Winter Games.
