Google adds an Ocarina of Time Easter egg that recreates its 1998 homepage

Google has added an Ocarina of Time Easter egg to its desktop search page ahead of a Nintendo Switch 2 version planned for November 5.

Searching for terms such as “The Legend of Zelda” or “Ocarina of Time” makes a Master Sword appear on the page.

Clicking the sword changes Google to a 1998-style screen, recalling the year the original game was released.

The effect mirrors the game’s story, in which pulling out or returning the Master Sword moves the hero between childhood and adulthood.

Small details include about 1,998 search results and a search time of 0.64 seconds, a nod to the Nintendo 64.

Clicking the sword again returns the page to its usual appearance, and searches using common abbreviations can also trigger the effect.
