Mexico's lower house delays new civil court rules until 2031
Mexico's Chamber of Deputies voted to delay a new civil and family court system until 2031.
The 2023 code sets common rules for all 32 states.
It was originally due to take effect nationwide on April 1, 2027, but the reform moves that date to April 1, 2031.
Supporters say the extra time will help train court staff and prepare hearing rooms for the new procedures.
The PRI voted against the change, saying the delay would hold back justice.
The reform now goes to the Senate for debate and a vote.
