Arc browser will shut down on December 22 as its maker shifts to Dia
The Browser Company will shut down Arc on December 22, 2026, ending support for its browser on Mac and Windows.
The company is steering users to Dia, its AI-first browser, and says keeping a browser secure requires increasing work.
The change comes after the company stopped active feature development on Arc in 2025, saying its complexity limited wider adoption.
Arc accounts will stop being created immediately, and Arc Search will lose its AI features on November 23, though it will remain a basic local browser.
On December 22, Arc will stop working, accounts will be deactivated and personal data will be deleted within 30 days.
Users can transfer passwords, bookmarks, extensions and history to Dia, which will also keep equivalents of some Arc features; those features will remain free, with AI optional.

Keeping a browser secure takes constant, dedicated work that is only increasing in the age of AI
Dia was built from the ground up to meet today’s security standards, so that’s where our engineering and security teams will focus moving forward.
While we’d love to open-source Arc someday, we can’t do that meaningfully without also open-sourcing ADK
And ADK is still core to our company’s value.
