South Korean president’s passport details among data leaked online

A file containing President Lee Jae Myung’s personal data and that of 167 others was posted online in June.

The people listed included presidential staff, security officers, officials and reporters connected to Lee’s European trip.

The file reportedly included names, birth dates, passport numbers and passport expiry dates.

It was posted on a website under a title identifying passengers on the presidential plane, and one account says it remained exposed for about five months.

South Korea’s presidential office has launched an investigation into how the information was leaked, how widely it was exposed and whether anyone was harmed.

The foreign ministry and other agencies are also expected to take further steps.

Officials have called for a review of travel security procedures and measures to prevent another leak.
