Autograph show explores bodies, ancestry and women’s experiences

London gallery Autograph has opened a three-artist show about bodies, family history and women’s experiences.

The exhibition, Our Bodies Have Been Bridges, includes photographs by the late Chicana artist Laura Aguilar, Ecuadorian artist Koyoltzintli and Peruvian artist Tarrah Krajnak.

Aguilar’s 1996 desert self-portraits show her body blending into, and standing out from, the landscape.

Made when large, queer Chicana bodies had little visibility in culture, the images explore rejection and the desire to belong.

Koyoltzintli restages childhood memories and family rituals, while her other works imagine the story of the first woman on Earth.

Krajnak alters images from Peruvian newspapers and magazines from 1979 to explore the gap between media portrayals and women’s lives.
