Roma face Genoa with five first-team players unavailable

Roma host Genoa at the Stadio Olimpico in a Serie A match after a 4-3 Champions League defeat to Real Madrid on Wednesday.

Roma had led 3-1 before conceding three late goals from corners.

Coach Gian Piero Gasperini must manage five unavailable first-team players: Paulo Dybala, Manu Koné, Bryan Cristante and goalkeeper Mile Svilar are injured, while Donyell Malen is suspended.

Santiago Castro leads Roma’s attack, with Rodrigo Mora also starting.

Genoa are coached by former Roma player Daniele De Rossi, who returns to the Olimpico with forward Stephan El Shaarawy, another former Roma player.

Genoa come into the match after a 2-1 win over Fiorentina, which ended a difficult start to their season.

Gasperini says Roma need to adapt to a busy schedule and make use of their squad depth, while the match gives Mora and Castro a chance to build confidence.

I am more concerned because we have few changes on the bench and perhaps some Primavera players will have to help us.

We have a strong squad, but with this schedule we will not be able to play with the same line-up all the time.

This is a team that has value, and it has been showing that for months.
