Jonathan Yeo named royal tour artist for King Charles's Caribbean visit

Jonathan Yeo has joined King Charles's Caribbean trip as its official artist to record the visit.

Charles revived the tradition in 1985, bringing artists on royal travels to preserve a record and support traditional arts.

Yeo, who painted Charles's first portrait as monarch in 2024, is one of the best-known artists to take on the role.

The King has given Yeo an open brief to choose what he wants to paint.

Tour artists are not paid, but the King covers their expenses, and they are asked to donate one finished work to the Royal Collection.

Yeo is taking photographs and making sketches during the trip, and plans to start painting when he returns to the UK.

The finished work will add to the Royal Collection, while Yeo can sell or display his other works.
