California voters decide governor, Los Angeles mayor and other key races
California voters are choosing a governor and deciding other races and propositions on Election Day.
In Los Angeles, incumbent Mayor Karen Bass faces challenger Nithya Raman, with a recent poll showing both at 40% and 19% of voters undecided.
The city attorney race will replace an incumbent who lost her primary, with prosecutor John McKinney and Deputy Attorney General Marissa Roy competing for the job.
Both candidates have pledged to restore a neighborhood prosecutor program and pursue landlords who exploit vulnerable tenants.
The insurance commissioner contest comes as wildfire risk and insurance prices rise, and some insurers have left the state.
Redistricting linked to Proposition 50 has also set up a contest between Republican representatives Young Kim and Ken Calvert in California’s 40th Congressional District.
Polls close at 8 p.m., and results will then start coming in.
