India begins international Digi Yatra trials at seven airports
India has begun Digi Yatra trials for international departures at seven airports: Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Cochin, Mumbai, Chennai and Amritsar.
The trials run from November to December 2026 and cover eligible Indian nationals with e-passports travelling on selected Air India and IndiGo flights.
Digi Yatra uses digital identity and face checks to help passengers move through airport checkpoints.
To take part, passengers must create a digital credential in the Digi Yatra app by scanning their passport, reading its chip with a compatible phone and verifying their details.
They may use it at equipped terminal entrances, security areas and boarding gates, but it does not replace travel documents or required checks.
The trials will test the service at international departure points, while immigration procedures remain part of the existing process.
Feedback will shape plans for a wider rollout in 2027.
