Francisco Lindor wins MLB's Roberto Clemente Award

Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor won MLB's Roberto Clemente Award for his humanitarian work.

The award recognizes a major league player for character, community involvement, philanthropy and positive contributions on and off the field.

Lindor and his wife, Katia, have worked with groups including Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, Special Olympics Florida and Boys & Girls Clubs of America.

He has also supported relief and education efforts, including donating to hurricane recovery in Puerto Rico and funding school supplies in Queens.

Lindor is the fifth recipient of Puerto Rican descent, following players including Edgar Martinez and Yadier Molina.

The award is named for Roberto Clemente, a Puerto Rican baseball star who died in 1972 while trying to deliver earthquake relief supplies to Nicaragua.

Lindor was due to receive the award before Game 3 of the World Series on Monday night.
